There are few grape varieties that elicit the strong and diverse reactions that Zinfandel does. With the market awash in over-extracted, syrupy bottles of Zinfandel, one can easily forget that it was California’s original calling card. And thanks to the fact that so many of the state’s historic vineyards are packed with this juicy grape, we are able to learn how much better a Zinfandel wine can be when it comes from old vines thanks to their ability to concentrate flavors and retain acidity. This 2016 Eleven Eleven Old Vine Zinfandel is a testament to vines that were planted in the 1970s.
