Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
In the glass, sweet berry fruit and white pepper aromas are accompanied by hints of figs and dried fruit. The same sweet and peppery characteristics shine through on the palate with just a touch of tannin structure which extends the finish. This versatile wine is the perfect choice whether enjoying a quiet evening at home or sharing with friends over an elegant dinner.
Vineyard Notes
Huddled up next to Atlas Peak is the Moss Creek Vineyard. Here you can find old, gnarled Zinfandel vines that hearken back to the 1970s and serve as the sole source of grapes for our Eleven Eleven Old Vine Zinfandel. The benefit of making Zinfandel from older vines is that they tend to produce fewer clusters which help to concentrate the flavors and preserve the acidity in the wine.
Winemaker Notes
“Crafting old vine Zinfandel is a real treasure. These 45-year-old grandfathers of the field have roots that stretch deep into layers of gravelly loam and mine what was deposited there millennia ago. The flavors and the effect are unique to vines that have dug this deep. Black fruit, jam, and elixirs all join to become one in this special wine.” - Kirk Venge, Winemaker
Food Pairing Notes
The combination of rich fruit and balanced acidity make this versatile wine a wonderful pairing for traditional plates like those served on a Thanksgiving table. Serve it with turkey and gravy and stuffing. For dessert, it will pair beautifully with blackberry tart or a fine piece of salted dark chocolate.
